    Description

Beginning around 1760, the industrialized nations of Europe began to colonize the rest of the world. Great Britain was the most successful, with an empire so vast that the sun was said never to set on it. By the end of the 19th century, even declining European players like Portugal were acquiring territory: colonizing, influencing, annexing. The so-called "Scramble for Africa" saw the Europeans slice and dice the Dark Continent. Only at the end
of the Great War in 1918 did imperialism begin to wane.
This set contains five European colonial banknotes: a crude 1 rupie from German East Africa; a 1 piastre, printed on lovely French paper, from French Indochina; a uniface Hong Kong 1 cent; and a 50 and 100 escudos from Portuguese Guinea-today's Mozambique. These collectible antiques are certified authentic and would make a fantastic Christmas gift!
